The games to watch
Two unbeaten teams, one stadium
The late window has the day's biggest game. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders are both 3-0, and they meet at Allegiant Stadium at 4:25 PM ET on CBS. One of them leaves 4-0 and the other takes its first loss.
Three more unbeaten teams play today:
- Buffalo Bills (3-0) host the New England Patriots (1-2) at 1:00 PM on CBS.
- Minnesota Vikings (3-0) host the Miami Dolphins (0-3) at 4:05 PM on FOX.
- San Francisco 49ers (3-0) host the Denver Broncos (2-1) at 4:25 PM on CBS.
Teams still looking for a win
Five teams come in at 0-3, and all of them play today. Two have a fair chance to get off the mark at home: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Green Bay Packers (1-2), and the Houston Texans host the Dallas Cowboys (1-2). Both games kick off at 1:00 PM on FOX. The other three are on the road against teams with winning records: the Tennessee Titans at the Baltimore Ravens, the Dolphins at the Vikings, and the Los Angeles Chargers at the Seattle Seahawks.
Even matchups at 1:00 PM
The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cincinnati Bengals are both 2-1 and play at Paycor Stadium on CBS. If you are flipping between early games, this one should stay close. The Los Angeles Rams (1-2) at the Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) on FOX is the other 1:00 PM game to keep an eye on.
Looking ahead
The next week starts Thursday, October 8, at 8:15 PM ET, with the Buccaneers at the Cowboys on Prime Video at AT&T Stadium. On Sunday, October 11, London hosts again at 9:30 AM ET: the Eagles play the Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on NFL Network. That week's late games include the 49ers at the Seahawks on FOX at 4:25 PM ET, and Sunday night has the Ravens at the Falcons on NBC at 8:20 PM ET.
Following NFL scores without a phone in your hand
On a Sunday with eight games at once, most people check scores by opening an app over and over. A ticker on a screen you already have nearby can do that checking for you.
What GridTicker shows for a football game
GridTicker runs in a browser on a spare monitor, a laptop or a TV, so all 14 games scroll past without anyone touching it. Details are in the guide.
- Before kickoff, each game shows its start time and the channel showing it. Turn on Records and each team's win-loss record appears beside its name, the same records used in the table above.
- During the game, football adds an arrow beside the team with the ball, three short bars for the timeouts each team has left, the down and the distance and where the ball is, and the last play in words. The down and distance turn red when a team is inside its opponent's 20.
- Big plays get a moment of their own for two minutes, with the scorer's name: touchdowns, field goals, safeties and two-point conversions, plus sacks, interceptions and fumbles the defense recovers. You can turn these off for each screen with Score celebrations.
- After the game, the row says Final, with /OT when it went to overtime.
Your team first
If you star your team under Favorites, Favorites first puts it ahead of the rest of the league. Favorites only goes further and shows only your favorites. Upcoming reaches sets how far ahead the strip looks, from today only to the next two weeks, so you can choose whether Thursday's game shows up yet.
Standings beside the scores
Tick the NFL under Standings to add its tables to the strip: a row per division and a wild-card table for each conference. A team's box turns green once it has won what that table is for and red once it can no longer reach the postseason. Once a team clinches a place, the playoff bracket appears beside the tables. Like every NFL scoreboard, GridTicker gets its scores from public sports data providers, which can run a little behind the broadcast.
